Germany Day

We had such an amazing day today looking at Germany and aspects of its culture. Firstly, it was great to see how we had all made an effort to try and come to school dressed in the colours of the German flag so we took the opportunity to get a whole class photo as well as smaller group photos so that we could see everyone properly.

Then as you can see below, we started the day by taking the important opportunity of looking at the different cultures and languages that are spoken in our classroom. As this group are demonstrating, they came up to the map of Europe and identified Poland to show everyone where it was on the map and then we discussed whether they were born there, whether they speak their home language solely at home, English or a mixture of the two. It was a fascinating discussion and we learnt lots about the diversity within our class.

It was then onto Germany, where we all coloured in a German flag to go on our new Germany display and then revised and learnt some basic German greetings. Lastly, we learnt about the German tradition of celebrating St Martin (this takes place on the 11th November) where the children make lanterns to take part in a special procession so we had a go at making some traditional lanterns ourselves. We had great fun making them!
